Resumen

A análise crítica do controle penal e de seu desenvolvimento entre o final do século XX e o início do XXI questiona diretamente as possibilidades e os limites da própria democracia contemporânea. As estratégias de regulação punitiva da sociedade, que cada vez mais caracterizam a fase atual da globalização capitalista, efetivamente contribuem, de modo determinante, para traçar os novos limites materiais e simbólicos da democracia: com efeito, tais estratégias definem novas formas de exclusão e consolidam novos critérios de seleção no acesso à cidadania.
