Abstract

Intense international competitiveness due to the phenomenon of globalization coupled with the strong growth of the world population has required increasingly the increase in consumer goods production and food. Such competitiveness has resulted in highly worrying environmental impacts either by increased generation of waste, either by expansion of the agricultural frontier resulting strong pressure on natural resources. The great challenge of this early century is to enable sustainable development. The Environmental Law emerges as a way to give effect to quality of life concepts formulated by professionals of the natural sciences. This study used the deductive method seeking, from a bibliographic research shows the importance of the principles of environmental law in the effectiveness of the protection of natural resources, providing means for solving interpretation of conflict of laws rules and guidance for  public policy makers or the creation of standards, both in the incorporation of the environmental variable in decision-making.
