The Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry faces a historical gap in productivity, often exacerbated by "data obesity"—the overproduction of information that does not add value to the final process. This study investigates how the standardization of information flow impacts two critical BIM (Building Information Modeling) uses: cost estimation and project coordination. Adopting a qualitative and exploratory approach combined with computer simulation, the research analyzes the Lean Information Management (LIM) concept and the Level of Information Need (LOIN) framework. The methodology involves comparing a traditional unstructured workflow with an optimized scenario where Lean principles and ISO 19650 standards are applied to digital data assets. Through the analysis of information exchanges via IFC (Industry Foundation Classes) standards, the results demonstrate that standardizing data flows significantly reduces rework, eliminates "informational waste," and improves quantity accuracy in 5D BIM. The findings suggest that a structured information flow, aligned with the newly published ISO 19650-6:2025 and ISO 7817-1:2024 standards, is essential for enabling advanced BIM applications, such as Digital Twins and automated AI-driven workflows, by ensuring that data is precise, timely, and fit-for-purpose.
