Abstract
O texto trata de salientar dimensões do pensamento de D. Frei Bartolomeu de Las Casas, OP, defensor dos índios da recém-"descoberta" América. Trata-se de relacionar temas éticos e jurídicos que Las Casas usa para defender a dignidade dos índios, seus direitos, sua dimensão humana contra visões que tentavam reduzi-los a escravos, como se animais fossem, e por isso passíveis de serem espoliados de sua humanidade, cultura, religião e maneira de se organizarem socialmente.
