SUSTAINABLE FEED RESOURCE UTILIZATION IN DRYLAND GOAT PRODUCTION: PROTEIN AND ENERGY RESPONSES OF KACANG GOATS FED COMPLETE FEED SILAGE FROM DIFFERENT FORAGE SOURCES SUPPLEMENTED WITH ZNSO₄ AND ZN–CU ISOLEUCINATE

Resumo

The aim of the research was to optimize consumption and digestibility of nutrients as well as the utilization of protein and energy. This research was carried out to measure the effect of complete feed silage based on various types of forage, namely Kume grass (Sorghum pkumosum), white flower (Chromolena odorata), sorghum-Clitoria ternatea, and Odot grass (Penisetum purpureum cv Mott) with the addition of 20% concentrate containing ZnSO4 and Zn-Cu isoleucinate, based on the results of previous research. The research used Kacang goats, using an experimental method with a Latin Square Design consist of four treatments and four periods as replications. The treatments studied were T1: Kume grass silage without concentrate; T2, T3 and T4 are complete feed silages i.e. Chromolena odorata; sorghum-Clitoria ternatea and Odot grass with the addition of 20% concentrate contain 150 mg ZnSO4/kg/DM concentrate and 2% Zn-Cu isoleucinate/kg DM ration. The parameters measured were consumption and digestibility of organic matter, crude protein and energy, nitrogen retention, total plasma protein, metabolizable energy and blood glucose. The results showed that the treatment had a significant effect (P<0.05) on metabolized energy and blood glucose and was highest at T2, digested energy tended to increase (P<0.07), while the parameters for protein utilization in all treatments were relatively the same. It can be concluded that different type of forage influenced the highest increase in energy utilization in kacang goats that consumed complete feed silage based on Chromolena odorata with indicators of a significant increase in digestible energy, metabolized energy and blood glucose, while protein utilization in Kacang goats that consumed complete feed silage based on the four types of forage used relatively the same.
