HUMAN RIGHTS AND DAMS: ANALYSIS OF ENVIRONMENTAL AND ECONOMICS IMPACTS IN RONDONIA

Abstract

The proliferation of dams in the amazon is not a recent phenomenon in Rondônia, started in 80’s and recovered in last years, because the water potential of the region. The impacts are being gradually senses and known by the people, directly or indirectly, however, is very necessary tell about the process and understand dimension of the impacts. This article proposes a discussion based on three points: geographical aspects of Rondônia, understanding of the processes and impacts of each of the installed hydropower or in the process of being in Rondonia (Samuel, Jirau, Santo Antônio and Tabajara) and, finally, an analysis of the environmental compensation and a critical about social and environmental impacts. Such discussions are important not only from the scientific and academic point of view, but also from a social point of view, since it’s indispensable to understand the magnitude of the problems, in order to better guide the compensation and public policies to minimize the environmental impacts experienced by impacted communities directly or indirectly.
