GENETICALLY MODIFIED ORGANISMS IN THE PERSPECTIVE OF THE PROTECTION OF FUTURE GENERATIONS

Abstract
Genetic manipulation, as biotechnological activity, brought new horizons for modern society. On the other hand, it has appeared as a threat for future generations, due to the creation of high-risk damaging potential, with probability of future realization. The limitation the use of natural resources and the environmental quality enjoyment by the occurrence of adverse effects of genetically modified organisms “ GMO acts may represent an affront to the legal principles of solidarity and equality between generations. In this context, the precautionary principle is shown as an instrument to guarantee the interests of future generations due to its function of delimitation, removal and mitigation of uncertain risks from the scientific point of view. Using as methodology the inductive- -deductive reasoning and bibliographical and normative review of the theme, it was concluded by the need for extensive and careful evaluation of the risks from the use of GMOs with the definition of minimum criteria for this evaluation and consideration of the social perception of risks.
