Abstract

As organizations continue to seek for means of stimulating sustainable value creation in a highly competitive business environment, instilling entrepreneurial behavior among employees become a non-negotiable capability. This study systematically reviews the intrapreneurship literature from 2015 to 2025 to identify dominant research themes and examine the outcomes associated with intrapreneurial activities. Using the Systematic Quantitative Assessment Technique (SQAT), 84 peer-reviewed articles retrieved from five academic databases were analysed. The findings reveal three dominant themes including human capital, academic intrapreneurship, and innovation. Human capital was the most prominent theme which shows the importance of employee competencies, psychological resources, and continuous learning in nurturing intrapreneurial behavior within established firms. Academic intrapreneurship also provided evidence of the growing role of universities in knowledge commercialization, regional innovation, and entrepreneurial ecosystem development. The review provides an indication of the evolution of intrapreneurship from an employee-level activities to a strategic capabilities for organizational and societal value creation. The study emphasized the need for future research within geographic regions such as Africa, where intrapreneurship research remains relatively low over the past decade. The study recommends that tertiary institutions embrace academic intrapreneurship by strengthening industry partnerships and research commercialization mechanisms to enhance their contribution to entrepreneurial ecosystem development and national economic transformation.
