ASPECTOS CLINICOS E TRATAMENTO DA MENINGITE EM EQUINOS

As meningites e meningoencefalites representam um grupo de afecções neurológicas de elevada letalidade em equinos. Esta revisão sintetiza evidências clínicas e epidemiológicas sobre infecções do sistema nervoso central, abrangendo causas bacterianas e virais. Estima-se que as meningoencefalites bacterianas correspondam a 9,6% das doenças neurológicas equinas, afetando principalmente potros neonatos, embora ocorram em adultos. Patógenos como Streptococcus pluranimalium e arbovírus como o vírus da encefalite equina leste e do Nilo Ocidental são discutidos. O colapso da barreira hematoencefálica e o edema vasogênico exigem suporte neurointensivo e o uso de biomarcadores para monitoramento. A identificação precoce e a vacinação são estratégias fundamentais de controle.
