THE CARE OF THE SELF IN TUTORING

Modernization and industrialization require schools to produce graduates prepared for mechanized, disciplined forms of work, with an emphasis on professional competence. This process has increased the demands placed on both teachers and students, often generating emotional strain. While adapting to global standards is necessary, it is equally important to recognize the uncertainties affecting contemporary society and the ongoing need to humanize higher education. Tutoring programs seek to support students facing academic and emotional challenges, and their effectiveness is closely linked to the practice of the care of the self. The care of the self enables tutors to cultivate well-being and, in turn, guide students toward similar processes of self-formation. In performance-oriented education, tutors must first cultivate care of the self to provide meaningful support to their students. Here, critical reflection is used to highlight the importance of the care of the self.
