Abstract

This article examines how East Javanese higher education students construct multifaceted identities while studying in Surabaya. Drawing on in-depth interviews with Geography Education students who migrated from districts and small towns across East Java to Surabaya, the study explores identity formation as a relational process shaped by internal migration. The analysis is organized around three interlocking mechanisms: interaction, recognition and self-narration.
